2025 INNER LIGHT – A REIKI NEWSLETTER FOR REIKI PEOPLE

Volume 7 Issue 4 – September 2025

REIKI WITH HEART IS CLOSING

The time has come it seems to bring my Reiki Sharing and Teaching programmes to a close. It has been a decision that has been in process since Christmas time last year.

As many of you know, I have trained as a Shaman utilising the Lakota tribe’s Medicine as my main Shamanic practice.  But I also honour the Medicine practice of many other tribes and recently my reading of Cherokee wisdom collided synchronistically with several things. “At some point, all of us stand at a crucial fork in the road and decide which way we will go. When we stand firm in what we know is right, we can make the decision with confidence.” (A Cherokee Feast of Days – Daily Meditations,  Joyce Sequiche Hifler). And because of the synchronicity of things, I could at last make the decision with confidence.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away – is the device for the start of all Star Wars films, so I think it is a good place for me to start.

The history of my journey with Reiki began at the turn of the Millennium with a project in Fife where I practiced as an Aromatherapist with a Reiki Master helping women who had experienced domestic abuse to find ways of being able to touch their children and themselves with loving care. My colleague kept saying to me I should join her on the Reiki journey. Don’t be silly! However, at Christmas I received a book (delight!) but it was about Reiki. I received another gift that turned out to be a book (delight) but it too was about Reiki. Then in the New Year I received another gift, a book (delight) but it was about Reiki. When my colleague and I met to plan the next six-week programme she asked my what I received for Christmas. Reluctantly I shared with her I had received three Reiki Books. Her delight was impressive! Now you have to join me on the Reiki journey

And that was the start of training to be a Reiki Master Practitioner in Western Reiki, and then I joined Taggart King’s programme of Japanese Reiki and trained with him to Reiki Master Practitioner and more recently trained with Frans Stiene.

Some of you may remember the first business name I adopted was Reiki Inner Light, which morphed into the charity Centre for Reiki Inner Light and when that closed, I opened Reiki WITH HEART. The Newsletter has always been Inner Light.

And now comes the ending of this delightful, beautiful, journey as the process begins to morph into the very scary process of the journey into retirement.

The first page of my diary has for many moons had a quote written on it by Hunter S Thompson (from The Proud Highway: Saga of a Desperate Southern Gentleman). “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow, what a ride!’” I am fully determined to take this philosophy into my retirement.

REIJU FOR YOU

It’s not always possible to attend a Reiki Share where Reiju is often part of the Share, so Carole provides Reiju remotely. Any Reiki person can ‘tune in’.

In Traditional Japanese Reiki, students receive Reiju empowerments every time they are with their Reiki Practitioner/Teacher. This tradition is echoed when Reiju is available at Reiki Shares. And in the same way that Reiki can be applied remotely – or ‘by ‘Distance’ – remote Reiju works really well.

Carole ‘broadcasts’ a remote Reiju empowerment every Sunday for the whole week with the intention that it can be experienced by any Reiki person.

The simplest way to experience Reiju is to sit and quietly bring yourself present, breathing down into the Hara with your hands in Gasshô, then think to yourself “I will experience Reiju Empowerment from Carole now”.

It is as simple as that.

COMPASSION

To understand compassion truly we have to start with the negative – what it is not. It is not being nice to others because it is expected of us, empathy, sympathy, pity or even kindness. It is often defined as “deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with a wish to relieve it” or “sympathetic consciousness of another’s distress together with a desire to alleviate it”.

Both of these meanings include the aspect that is essential for compassion – not just recognising the feeling but having the ability to act on the feeling. The feeling is our inward director towards compassion and the action is the Reiki outward response to that feeling.

In general thoughts are felt to arise from the head represented in Reiki through Heavenly energy and feelings are thought to arise from the Heart Centre also represented in Reiki through Heavenly energy. This can also be regarded in Reiki I as Third Eye (intuition) and palm healing integrated.

As a Reiki Practitioner develops and deepens their awareness, the concepts of Earth and Heavenly energy merge into Oneness. This leads the Reiki Practitioner to work in a more intuitive ‘special action’ that is true compassion. It is in a sense ‘doing nothing’ which in true Zen tradition ‘achieves everything’.

In this way ‘compassion’ and ‘oneness’ are inseparable, and the Reiki Practitioner is now offering to channel Reiki without the intervention of thoughts or feelings or any ego driven actions – they are just responding to the needs of the person to whom they are offering Reiki energy.

I was reminded of this when I received a newsletter from my Business Mentor, also a Sufi Priest, who reminded us “that love is more powerful” in these days of difficult political situations and the experiencing of people in war torn countries.

The Sufis talk about ‘annihilating love’ which asks us to love each other fiercely with a love that does not cede the breadth of one atom to hatred, to illusion, or to those who are not cherishing all of us. It is about reaching into our hearts and the Great Bright Light so that we see only love, hear only love, take only from love and give only to love.

If we can offer compassion in this way we will have no other choice, no other will, than to show up for each other, to be the earth for each other over, and over, and over again. Those who seek power, those who are tyrannical, always underestimate the power of people like us to weave the tapestry of love, and care, and justice.
