REIJU FOR YOU

It’s not always possible to attend a Reiki Share where Reiju is often part of the Share, so Carole provides Reiju remotely. Any Reiki person can ‘tune in’.

In Traditional Japanese Reiki, students receive Reiju empowerments every time they are with their Reiki Practitioner/Teacher. This tradition is echoed when Reiju is available at Reiki Shares. And in the same way that Reiki can be applied remotely – or ‘by ‘Distance’ – remote Reiju works really well.

Carole ‘broadcasts’ a remote Reiju empowerment every Sunday for the whole week with the intention that it can be experienced by any Reiki person.

The simplest way to experience Reiju is to sit and quietly bring yourself present, breathing down into the Hara with your hands in Gasshô, then think to yourself “I will experience Reiju Empowerment from Carole now”.

It is as simple as that.

The Ritual of Daily Practice

My understanding of the way Usui taught his students is to encourage rituals in their lives until such time that it is part and parcel of life, at which point the ‘ritual’ can be let go.

In Japanese Reiki there are not as many rituals as there are in Western Reiki. Here is my reasoning for why it is useful to incorporate the ritual of Just for today … into your daily life until it is part and parcel of it.

Many rituals in life are traditional – like reciting a prayer. Most Christians have been taught from childhood to work with The Lord’s Prayer or the Catechism. Buddhists start their day with some form of meditation, focus, or contemplation. Muslims start their day with the first of their five daily prayer sessions. This connection with Spirit is important in helping us connect to our Divine Source and to feel grounded and balanced throughout the day.

For Reiki Practitioners of any level the Gokai – Precepts or Just for today… considered before we get into our day allow us to feel confident that we can start our day with balance and harmony, and allow us to consider our many abundances of blessings, support and the natural world around us.

The idea of starting the day in this way helps us connect with others globally who are starting their day in this way and will enable us to stay in touch with the fact that we all create our own reality and if there is ‘suffering’ in the world then we can each contribute towards the jump-start the world needs in order to change our path of greed and destruction to a path of plenty.

However, this ritual of the Gokai is not just for the beginning of the day. We need to continue to implement the sentiments throughout the day – to anchor our life in these Precepts. Just for today I am peaceful – especially when we feel angry; Just for today I am calm – especially when we are concerned or worried or have a difficult decision to make; Just for today I will respect others and have compassion – especially when others are tending to disrespect us; Just for today I will do my work honestly – especially at that moment when we feel we will skip corners and finally Just for today I am grateful – especially when we feel moments of ‘lack’ in our lives.

The ego is something I haven’t mentioned yet in this piece – but here goes! The ego is that part of my mind that likes to tell me what to do and when to do it – very simplistic but it helps me to alert myself to the ego at work in my own daily life. That ‘I’ in my life that generates stress and worry, anger and impatience at others or myself. I need to … I must… I should… I have to… all generate disharmony in me, whether it is shame, guilt, intimidation, fear or other energy thieves. The Gokai allow me to anchor myself in my day to those things generated by Divine Spirit that are unconditional on how I behave or feel. This helps me to feel in control, to keep my sense of Oneness and to feel worthy to do my work and to work from a place of inner peace.

I feel I have a better sense of priorities, a belief that there is enough for everyone, I am more open and flexible about change and have better contact with my creative self to problem-solve more easily.

Many years ago, a good friend said the best thing that she did was ‘give up and let God’ and dedicated herself to letting God work with her in her life. I feel similarly with the Gokai. The more I work towards letting these Precepts guide my life throughout each day, the better able I am to manage those aspects of myself that live in the shadow, but expose themselves to others in times of stress and in a way that has a potential to damage my relationships or make others consider me as unauthentic.

Just for today … commit yourself to bringing the Precepts into your life throughout the day until they are no longer a ritual but a way by which you live your life.
